[K-pop] CN Blue, Super Junior and Boyfriend Take Over the Oricon Charts

It was a day of delight for Korean groups in Japan, as CN Blue, Super Junior and Boyfriend celebrated high ranks in the Oricon Chart, washing up the charts in their own Korean wave.

According to the Oricon on August 30, CN Blue’s first full-length album Code Name Blue, released on August 29, rose to the top of the Oricon’s Daily Chart.



The band managed to beat out the records set by Japan’s rock bands Tokyo Jihen and Dragon Ash and the big idol group AKB48 to sit at first place.



Super Junior and Boyfriend also scored successes elsewhere, on the Weekly Singles Chart, as second and fourth.

On August 22, Super Junior released Sexy, Free & Single from its sixth Korean studio album released in July as a single album for its Japanese fans. According to the chart, the album sold 109,821 copies.

The rookie group Boyfriend managed the most surprising feat, as it rose to fame in Japan as a seasoned new group. Its debut single album Be My Shine sold a total of 54,269 copies since its release on August 22, setting the group on no. 4 on the Weekly Chart.

Boyfriend previously took over the Oricon’s Singles Chart in just four days since its Japan debut by nailing a no. 1 win. The group is said to have aimed straight for the hearts of Japanese fans, with an appealing concept of music and interesting member images.

The Oricon Style called Boyfriend ‘a debut from Korea, which won three rookie awards in the country’ and showed great interest in the group.
